As a follow up to the Norwegian Year of Science workshop om research and innovation for global challenges in Trondheim October 5, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Hydro and the Norwegian Year of Science will arrange a workshop on Food, Water, Energy and Community.
The seminar takes place on December 9 2011; 10.00 – 15.00 at HYDRO Vækerø.
Background
On October 5 NTNU, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Research and the Norwegian Year of Science, arranged a seminar on the research of global challenges.
The main focus was on the need for knowledge and technology to ensure humanity clean energy, clean water and adequate nutritious food. The seminar provided concrete examples of research and innovation projects that aim to produce relevant knowledge and good technological solutions.
The technological solutions can not be viewed in isolation from the geographical and socio-cultural framework. Participants discussed what kind of changes that will be needed for both the community and society to integrate and make use of such knowledge in a sustainable manner.
One aim of this seminar is to follow up along the same lines with Rio +20 as a first milestone for presentations and demonstrations and at the same time provide an input to the OECD's project for international research and innovation cooperation on global challenges, STIG. STIG aims to make recommendations on how to initiate, establish and manage the collaboration of this type. The seminar will therefore provide examples that illustrate the interaction between different needs, different technologies and different ways to organize the cooperation in FEED Brazil 2012 and related projects like Barents 2013 and Green Africa.
